Both halves of that sentence are worth saying plainly, because comparison pages have a bad habit of implying a competitor either does not offer a service or is not a serious option. JH Auto Care is a serious option. It is the closest overlap with our service list in this valley, and yes, it will coat your car.

The real difference is structural, and it is the same difference you will find with almost every detailer advertising in Jackson Hole: they are mobile, and we are a fixed shop.

A mobile operation brings the work to you from an equipped vehicle, so it publishes a service area rather than a street address. Convenience is a legitimate thing to buy, and sometimes it is the deciding factor. If you are working through a week where moving the car is genuinely not going to happen, or the vehicle lives out in Star Valley or Alpine and a round trip to Jackson costs you most of a day, a mobile detailer is solving a real problem that we do not solve. That is not a consolation prize. Book it.

What we would ask you to weigh, specifically for a coating, is that the coating is the last five percent of the job. The other ninety five percent is preparation and cure conditions, and that is what the next two sections are about.

The building is not decoration on the pitch. For coating work it is part of the equipment, in four specific ways.

A climate controlled bay for coating cure

Every serious coating manufacturer publishes an application specification: a temperature band and a relative humidity band inside which the product is designed to level, flash and cure correctly. Our application bay is climate controlled, so instead of waiting for a day that matches the specification, we set the room to it and hold it there. That is why we install ceramic coatings in January as readily as in July, and why we can give a customer a firm date months out.

Correction lighting that does not move

A coating locks in the paint exactly as it finds it, which makes correction the highest stakes stage of a coating job. Correction depends on seeing the defect, and swirl marks appear and disappear with the angle of the light. Our correction lighting is fixed and positioned, so a panel reads identically at 8 AM and at 4 PM, and a technician can confirm a defect is actually removed rather than momentarily hidden. That verification is the whole reason to correct before coating at all.

Filtered air and controlled dust

A coating stays receptive for hours after application, and anything that settles into it during that window is part of the finish rather than something you can wash off later. The same is true of paint protection film, which is squeegeed down wet. Still, filtered air is a property of an enclosed space, and it is the plainest reason our coating and film work happens indoors and stays indoors through the cure.

Time in the building, on purpose

Curing is not finished when the surface stops feeling wet. Our Premier Detail is scheduled at about 48 hours from arrival to cured, and the vehicle spends that entire time inside. That is a scheduling cost we accept because the chemistry asks for it, and a shop is the only structure that can absorb it.

Decontamination comes first

A wash removes what is loose. Decontamination removes what has bonded to the clear coat: industrial fallout and rail dust, embedded brake dust, tree sap, and the fine grit you can feel through a plastic bag. It runs as a chemical step, iron and tar removers, then a mechanical one, a clay bar or clay medium. A coating applied over contamination is a coating applied over contamination permanently. Every coating package we run includes decontamination and clay bar treatment. The International Detailing Association operates the skills certification program for the trade, and its published syllabus is a fair reference point for what a professional detailer is expected to be able to do.

Correction is measured in stages

Correction means machine polishing the clear coat to level defects out of it, counted in stages. A one step enhancement polish uses a single pad and polish combination to reduce light swirling and restore gloss; we quote ours at roughly a 50% improvement, because that is what one pass honestly does to most paint. A two step adds a cutting compound ahead of the finishing polish, taking out deeper defects and then refining the haze the cutting leaves. We quote ours at roughly 75%. Clear coat is a finite layer, and any shop promising 100% is promising to remove more of it than is sensible.

Panel prep is where the money in a coating quote actually goes

This is the single most useful thing to understand about coating pricing anywhere. A coating is optically honest: it preserves the condition of the paint underneath, so swirls present at application stay under the coating, and taking them out afterwards means removing the coating first. Two quotes for the same vehicle and the same product can therefore differ substantially and both be entirely fair. The variable is not the bottle. It is the number of correction stages included, plus the panel wipe down that strips polishing oils so the coating bonds to bare clear coat rather than to residue. Ask any installer how many stages of correction the price includes, and what happens if the paint turns out to need more. Cure conditions and cure schedule

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer, usually silica based, that cross links into a continuous hard layer on the clear coat. Because that is a chemical reaction rather than a drying, temperature and humidity govern it, and it continues well past the point of feeling dry. Too cold and it cures slowly or incompletely; too warm and it flashes faster than it can be levelled, leaving high spots that have to be polished back out. Warranty and authorization are checkable facts

An authorization is either recorded with the manufacturer or it is not, which makes it one of the few claims in this industry you can verify without trusting anybody.
