If you run vehicles on Turo or another short term rental platform, your actual problem is turnover. A car has to be cleaned between guests, quickly, wherever the last guest left it, on a schedule you do not control. A mobile detailer who manages that as a standing service is solving a problem that we, as a shop with opening hours and a booking calendar, are simply the wrong shape to solve. What Teton Mobile Detailing shares with nearly every other detailer advertising in this valley is the structural fact: the work travels to the vehicle, so the business publishes a service area rather than a bay.

Auto Spa by Detail Driven is the other shape. We publish an address, 1655 Martin Lane in Jackson, because the building is the point: an enclosed, climate controlled application bay, fixed correction lighting, a lift, hot water and a drain. The vehicle comes to us.

We are not neutral about which shape suits certain jobs, but the preference is at least informed. Auto Spa began in 2009 as a one man mobile detailing operation. We built the shop afterwards, for the work that turned out to need one.

There are jobs where mobile is straightforwardly the better booking, and rental turnover is the clearest one. So is a maintenance clean on a vehicle parked at a house in Wilson or a condo in Teton Village where nobody wants to move it. So is any week where the drive across town is the thing standing between you and a clean car. None of that is a compromise. It is the model working as intended.

Where the shape of the business genuinely changes the outcome is protective paint work: paint correction, ceramic coating and paint protection film. Those three are governed by light, temperature, humidity and airborne dust, and the next two sections cover what our building contributes to each.

Four things a fixed building contributes, and what each one changes about the result.

A climate controlled bay for coating cure

Ceramic coatings cure by chemical reaction, and manufacturers publish a temperature and relative humidity window for each product. Our application bay is climate controlled, so we set the room to that window and hold it for the length of the cure, then keep the vehicle inside until it is finished. It is the reason a coating booked for February gets the same conditions as one booked for July, and the reason we can commit to a date months ahead without a weather caveat attached to it.

Correction lighting that does not move

Swirl marks and holograms are visible only at particular angles, which makes lighting, not the polisher, the limiting factor in paint correction. Our correction lighting is fixed and positioned, so a panel reads the same at 8 AM as at 4 PM and a technician can confirm a defect is genuinely gone rather than temporarily out of view. That verification is what separates a two step correction from an expensive one step.

Filtered air and controlled dust

This one matters most for film. XPEL Ultimate Plus is installed wet and squeegeed down onto the panel, and anything airborne that lands in that window is under the film permanently rather than on top of it. Teton County supplies plenty of candidates: gravel dust off the pass, June cottonwood fluff, pollen, hay dust. Still, filtered air is a property of an enclosed room, which is why our film installs happen indoors and the vehicle stays indoors while the adhesive sets.

Power, water, heat and a drain

A lift, a floor drain, hot water at pressure, an extractor and a steamer all live in the building permanently. Nothing gets hauled or rationed. That is what makes a serious post winter undercarriage decontamination practical: hot water driven into wheel wells, seams and the underbody for as long as the job takes, with the runoff going into a drain rather than onto a driveway.

Decontamination comes first

A wash removes what is loose. Decontamination removes what is bonded to the clear coat: industrial fallout and rail dust, embedded brake dust, tree sap, and the fine grit you can feel through a plastic bag laid over the paint. It runs chemically first, with iron and tar removers, then mechanically with a clay bar or clay medium. Nothing protective should go on over contamination, because it stays there. Every correction and coating package we run includes decontamination and clay bar treatment. The International Detailing Association runs the skills certification program for the trade, and its syllabus is a reasonable external reference for what a professional detailer is expected to know.

Correction is measured in stages

Correction is machine polishing the clear coat to level defects out of it, counted in stages. A one step enhancement polish uses a single pad and polish combination to reduce light swirling and restore gloss; we quote ours at roughly a 50% improvement, which is what a single pass honestly achieves on most paint. A two step adds a cutting compound before the finishing polish, removing deeper defects and then refining the haze the cut leaves behind; we quote ours at roughly 75%. Clear coat is finite. A shop promising 100% is promising to remove more of it than is wise.

Panel prep before anything protective goes on

Both coating and film are unforgiving about what is underneath them. A ceramic coating preserves the condition of the paint it is applied to, so swirls present at application stay under the coating. Film is worse in one respect: it magnifies whatever it is laid over, and lifting film to fix paint means replacing the film. Prep therefore includes correction, then a panel wipe down that strips polishing oils so the coating or adhesive bonds to bare clear coat rather than residue. When you compare quotes, the meaningful question is how many correction stages the price includes and what happens if the paint needs more.

Cure environment and cure time

A ceramic coating is a silica based liquid polymer that cross links into a continuous hard layer. Because that is a reaction and not a drying, temperature and humidity govern it, and it carries on long after the surface feels dry. Manufacturers publish application and cure specifications for this reason, and the systems we are authorized to install, Double Black and Ceramic Coating Inc., are no exception. Our Premier Detail is scheduled at about 48 hours in the building from arrival to cured. Afterwards, washing a coated car properly is what preserves the result.

Film install conditions, and why authorization is checkable

Paint protection film is the reason a lot of Jackson vehicles come to us at all, because it is the only thing that physically stops a rock chip, and Teton Pass, Fall Creek and every forest service road in the valley are in the business of producing them. Ultimate Plus goes on wet, is positioned, squeegeed and heat set, and the adhesive keeps setting for days, so it wants a still, clean, temperature stable space through install and after.
